Well, there's a certain anonymity even behind the most glowing praise filled reccomendations that being strangers affords you. It's usual (I suspect) that people wind up their friends saying I'm wonderful and etc... and those friends are in fact in turn surprised that I'm as wonderful as they've heard.

Plus, secrecy, agents. Pre-arranged co-ordinates. That's the kind of thing that is best observed.
