Jun. 28th, 2012 06:38 pmI started painting but it's too hot to finish painting, it's too hot and that's like- not a thing I usually concede.
I kind of want to mention L5R because we're to start a new campaign of it shortly. We've played a bit and it continues to be the best game of all the games you can play. I barely paid attention to our last Shadowrun while I was thinking about making a new Samurai. We had a couple of go-nowhere sessions where I played an Isawa Shugenja - no disrespect to the Isawa - they're a good family and all, but I am Crane Clan all the way. The kerfuffle was about starting new and not letting me play dear old Kakita Endo - the light of his generation - the Topaz Champion. It turns out, or it was said or something that letting me play my ongoing character was somehow unbalanced. Now - I hate game balance, not as a concept but as a rule- and was dismayed, but in the end was persuaded to make a different Kakita Bushi. So Doji Mishima. You can tell how much I'll love a character by how much I like the novelist he's named after... Doji Mishima is going to be RAD. This guy? He started out at the Kakita artisan school but that darn epilepsy kept kicking in - whenever he was confronted with the frank and perfect beauty of some work he'd go into a fit. After a few times of this during the big moment of truth graduation the Kakita suggested he attend the dueling school where maybe he'd be more... disciplined. Turns out? Just what the reiki healer ordered. While paintings and flower arrangements might trigger his epilepsy - straight up cutting dudes with a sword who are slower than him totally grounds Doji Mishima.
So he comes into play with absurdly good rings and very, very special merits, but barely a rank in any skill. He'll make his way through the world effete, aloof, utterly superior and altogether talented on the road to being the greatest Kakita since Kakita - that's the angle.
Really - if you don't know what a Kakita is you're kind of missing out. There are games, then there are tabletop RPGs and then there is L5R. That's the truth babies.
