At the subterranean city of Waeek -

This is a massive city (again, it is built upon a stalactite of tremendous dimensions, that hangs over a yawning chasm which descends into unknowable depths. The rat-people live upon the platforms of gargantuan toadstool & within burrows & warrens cut into the stalactite itself. Their farms & groves are of mushrooms & strange herds of huge glow-worms that 'fish' bats & strange underground birds & 'fish' from the air itself. They harvest from these surrounding gardens through vast networks of rope armatures.

Mishka the shifter priestess decides to look into the city’s temples - The temples of the city are two - One to Soot, which is significant & well tended, it lies at the edge where the stalactite of Waeek hangs off the sky-of-stone. There, the Rat Folk - mainly yellow-white furred & slightly built - tend to many esoteric tasks - among the wise rats there you may make the acquaintance of Whiil - who shares your appreciation for the elemental forces of the universe itself. Whiil tells you of the 5 'towers' of the underworld - pillars inhabited by sages & godlike beings bound to the elemental essences. Whiil is quite aged for his kind & has an interest in the Shifter people- some of whom he's met before. He tells you that there were some that fled the dangers of the surface & have come to live in the great forests below.

The party returned to Sevvel in time to warn of a probable invasion from the north, the ravening hyena-men would certainly head for the town, the players decided, and so they must be warned.

The town is in no great position to defend itself & the PCs take it upon themselves to craft some ersatz fortifications.  Gideon makes a halting attempt to speak to the Wzectc Malboge worshipers but is scared off by their apparent prescience & discouraged by their total lack of concern with what he assumes is an imminent attack.  It seems that they have some irons in the fire, so the say, and that they're not concerned, sipping their coffee in their plaza.

Warrill & Pike & Elwin & Mishka forsake the Fathers entirely & turn instead toward helping the Mothers & the Workers to fortify & shore up their defenses.  Gideon is able to marshal a few of the Fishers as well, though most of them, their fears stoked, are set on leaving town & settling elsewhere.

Deciding that finding cows for the Mothers & an Ox for the Workers were the best of all possible choices, the group set out to travel north, along the recently dried out riverbed through the Blasted Wastes to the frontier village known lately as Loksh town.

The trip is a kind of ebullient excuse for Mishka to run & run & she maintains a pace that the rest of the band must struggle to keep up to her rate of 60 miles each day. It’s arduous, but the group is quite fit & in 3 days they make their way – all the while avoiding the denizens of the Blasted Wastes – terrible hyena men who sniff & search & chase anything they find & where they go a cloud of flies follows.

I really ought to get this down while I'm in the mood to do it, to be circumspect and a little thoughtful about the course of things.  I don't know if I mentioned it here but I probably did because I kind of yell it at people, but it's, you know — my desperation to seem like I'm not just utterly without ability or utility of any kind — but I did really make 17 books last year — so I feel like it's not my fault that I didn't keep this up to date as well as it could have been.  Now I worry that this reads as some kind of false modesty fake humility thing, I don't know.  I don't fucking know, I went crazy.  I had a crazy year last year and...  Fuck, you'd know if I was bragging, because it'd be about how handsome I am.  Bragging about the things you do is like bragging about the stuff you know.  Anyone else can if you can.

So yeah — I'm still pretty crazy I suppose if I think achievements aren't ever enough but purely arbitrary physicality is the only essential virtue.  Hey, good for me.

Anyhow I probably only sold enough books to be able to fuck up my tax situation anyway...  Perverse incentives.
