Thinking, coming home.
Jul. 26th, 2012 02:35 pmI like it when the sun is shining while it rains, unlikely as it seems - the man on the street talks to me - "How you doing?" "Hey man," says me "you ever see the sun shine so bright while it's raining?" Says he: "We about to have some rainbows!" And we're both excited for that.
I like it when the Bus Driver is more like the Bus Captain. The early morning stoicism of the 9, always just a little late, always serene and sepulchral coming down out of the rising sun. I like the capricious intensity of the 10's captain, who runs the tightest bus. Remember when he threw those men off for swearing? They swore a whole lot about that, they swore up a storm right in his face and it washed over him like Odysseus vs. the Sirens. Or whenever he stops the bus to stand very close to a lady or a man and tells them, calm as anything, that they can't talk so loud on their phones. I like the goodness and cheer of the 7 bus, coming home, everyone pleased to be home headed. Beatific. the bus captain lets indigents ride free if they laugh hard enough, he races lights and sprints through turns, a sure hand at the wheel.
I like riding the low numbered lines, they feel essential.
I like reading all day, I like working hard and solving riddles and writing manuals for instruction, going in early to unplug machines just ahead of dawn when no-one will notice, plugging them back, moments later, the tiny, essential change having been made.
