That was more true in the 89 uprising than in the late 60's - and in a complicated way at that. See - the Cultural Revolution 67-77 made everything very political, and people, after and through it - were pursuing training in political stuff- theoretical and scientific stuff - and they found that during the economic reforms of Deng Xiaoping - that they couldn't find work anymore - business had become the business of China.
In the 60's... Well there's a whole thing, a crazy, crazy thing. People were somewhat out of work, but their upheaval was far more influenced by the political scene at the time - all the kids grew up on the east is red - and then they were up against the early wave of Dengist reforms under Lio Xiaoqi - and Mao was opposed to this and in a grab for power he appealed to the youth to rise up and criticize the Capitalist Roaders - in the end some high school kids beat up the leadership of their country who died alone and naked in a cupboard in the countryside. It was Pretty Nuts.
