Oct. 19th, 2011 04:06 pmSo I need to do babysitting (I use it advisedly because really - you can't babysit your own kids) because D and J do Dr. Sketchy - it's a cute thing, apparently, that I'll never go to - because I am the designated caregiver for our kids when they do these things. Which is...
So sometimes I'm the additional family member, and sometimes they are - and usually we're all in a family kind of together. We all have the same goals - so we're on the same team and it's... NICE - but sometimes a little alienating - because in the end, I still go back to my own house - but that is also liberating - so all in all - equilibrium is achieved.
When they came home late at night and Jason took me home - he was a little tipsy - he's very sentimental, a sweet guy - which is all the reason you can see for him and D to work as a good couple. And he wants to tell a story about Agatha and Rose and how they mess up and call us both and each 'dad' by accident. Now to me... When D went with Rose's actual father- a bad man - he had some agenda to subvert my 'dadness' which I laughed at and which was ineffective. Of the things that kid understands - who I am and how we relate to each other has to be at or near the top of the list. We're a pretty good team you understand. So I do not get possessive or jealous - which are things you could get to be. But I understand the want for boundaries. I say - because I think it's so - "every kid should have a dad and a Jason and a Jeremiah - they should have both" And it's fine, we're all fine.
Kids go to bed early - a school night, so I end up at their house (more comfortable than mine) and watch their netflix all night - see the Troll Hunter - which did not disappoint. Saw Collapse - which was half satisfying. Thought to read, and took a book, but didn't.
Agatha got from the library of her school one of, apparently two of the omnibus collection of Beanworld- which interested me immensely - I have a single issue of it laying around and we both spend some time looking at it and thinking about it and conjecturing about what it could mean, what the story would be - and kid goes off and finds the rest of it- research, at the library. Proud, you understand. Proud.
This weekend, this weekend is Billy D Williams, Burt Ward and Adam West - going to Columbus to see just how many famous people she can get her picture with.
And I think next week I'll snap out of it all, and look for dates and to meet new people - it is time for that- time is coming for that. Hang up my black velvet blazer that I wear incessantly (because that's what I do when I'm less than 100%) and maybe buy some new shoes - new shoes will fix everything. Have a couple of beers, do some pushups- the whole story. Write this stupid book. It's going to be fine - It's getting better by the moment.
