Work!  Crazy & difficult problems with networking these old buildings using these old machines.  It's been a few weeks of confusion - what with irreplicable problems & confusing/conflicting claims made by the affected parties.  Goodness.  Really.  It got well under my skin & turned me to malice & grouchiness.  And now, I'm not really even certain how it was fixed - because so many simultaneous efforts were made to correct it - the firehose method of emergency troubleshooting - that I can't be sure if recreating domain profiles or replacing fiber modules or switching ports on the switch was the solution.

Or really if it was solved at all.  But don't jinx me.  It's been an anomolous month!  Which is better than sad.  Or bad.

Weekend last was not mine to have with kiddo - but we made do.  D&D on friday night got good when Soot - my dragon-man swamp-druid (he has a rattlesnake tail & loves to eat hens before they lay "Iiit's liiike a sssecret treeeet when the egg crunches!") Tricked or swindled a wish-granting devil into helping the others while he figured out how to protect them from their own recklesness - it's kind of his move-  he's a good guy to have on your side, even if he is awful gross (cobra-hood threat display, acid-spitting, reptile house odor).

I try and be a good guest and that entails bringing along booze but everyone else wasn't in the mood and I ended up having Rather A Lot of cider & wine.  Got pretty puzzled & on the way home got some more & stayed up real, real late talking about matters with Julie - who comes from far away to play & takes up my whole couch till whenever.  Mainly the discussion focuses on her weird infatuations with strange internet men - and this coincides with a bizarre little oddity of internet dating - which is that Joan & Julie independently of one another keep on going on dates with these same guys - and I figure out that they're drawing from the same pool because they both talk about the same qualities of these dudes, either complaining or wondering if I have any judgment on the matter.

(boy, do I.)

Which is why I was glad to arrange for them to meet - Saturday I watched all of John Adams with Julie while getting right from heavy boozing - then we went to dinner with Joan- who is dear & bought/got orchestra tickets for their little (confusing) 3 act opera in Czech - The Cunning Little Vixen - which was staged in a cute/interesting way - because - Orchestra.  They're in front & center in their own house.  I get confused about the value & wealth in the Orchestra.  They put out those big-big-big programs & if you dont' time your arrival right you might find yourself sitting in the balcony at Severance reading it - and in the whatever Diamond-Elite-Magic Circle of benefactors of the orchestra there's Old Franz Welser-Möst contributing like $500k - so if the conductor is giving half a million - how much does he get paid?  That's a lot of money to donate to your own job?  Anyhow if you understand the valuation of famous orchestras & their payrolls let me know, because I don't get it.

What?  Oh - after the show we walk around & through a weird dark construction area (by accident!) and the leaves are falling & falling into the Doan Brook which makes an unpleasant smell - the stormdrains in autumn, all full of tannins.  But also the path is bad & the route is wrong - because of construction fences - and construction - oops.  I tell her:  "This dark area - this is where I bring people!  When I want them to experience!  A bad smell!"  I felt kinda dumb about it, enough to remember now.  Anyhow she had zero interest in the statue of Stephanie Tubbs Jones that I super love - for whatever reason - and then we went to a bar I'd wished I'd visited before in Little Italy (really changed my mind about the whole neighborhood, actually).  This before the kind of arduous walk back up the hill to my house & her car.  She says farewell, I hope she moves to my neighborhood - or at least a train-accessible neighborhood.

Oh - and at Dinner J & J (hey, I'm J too!) seemed to... get along?  They're pretty different as people go - so it's interesting to see crossover & making people make new friends.  It went okay - Julie walked down to the orchestra with us and then left to go her own way.

Sunday I slept not late enough & then fucked around with Overwatch for most of the morning before young Agatha came over with her pretty dress - for you see - we were away to a wedding.  My little cousin got married and it was.  Okay.  The dancing may have gone well?  I didn't wait to see - who wants to stay late at a wedding without booze?  Who has a dry wedding?  Really religious people - who let the preacher go on & on stupidly & who mention Jesus more than each other in their vows.  Christ.  Whatta drag.  Jesus and his commanding presence at funerals & weddings is just the worst.

And then Lyft home and then back to her mom with a short, pleasant walk.  & then bed & then work - where i think I got the stupid network thing figured out, more or less.  Cross your fingers.
