Mar. 28th, 2012 08:15 pmRight now! Right now is right now, I'm wasting time before I take some test so I can try and embarrass myself on Jeopardy! There's a settling happening right now - a reordering of everything, life.
But anyhow- I have a time that I spend, an amount of time like coins in my pockets that is for painting. I have painting time to make spend. And I can't.
Not exactly blocked- that's like, not for me. I get... something else. I get spread out and have other stuff to do - but I'm stumped. XXI - the World. The World is pretty hard to paint my friends.
Early I was on my more socio-political bent and I was thinking: Rats in a Maze. 21 - System. I still like System, but I was thinking. I am thinking. The World. Dammit the World.
The sequence is important in my painting up the Trumps - that's what I want to stick to- the order, sequential. I could knock out all the Aces in a day - I'm looking forward to it actually, when I'll be able to. But for the moment I'm on the World and having some trouble.
I thought for a moment about Sagan and how I don't care about/never liked that guy. That pale-blue-dot thing that people get worked up about just seems stupid to me. Oh This tiny insignificant place that houses everything of significance - we'll ponder its lack of meaning now. It's just... It's sophomoric is what it is. I dislike and distrust this idea that vastness and nothing has an essential value somehow in excess of the works of man. I distrust ideas that denigrate the works of people in opposition to the majesty of nature/space/the cosmos. We have thinking - we invented that- we can even think about nonsense, have opinions about nonsense. We can make our spaceship take a picture of the earth so it looks like a pixel and then decide it means a thing.
Because the small must lack significance. It must! Our megafaunal bias. We're all so big, the biggest! Compare favorably to the biggest animals, we forget that we're insignificant - in terms of collective mass compared to the vast majority of creatures, most of them too small to notice. A pixel across. Sizes, distances - they're not important, that we can describe them - that's important.
So Thinking - that's the real stuff you people. System = Thinking, and what's the picture of thinking? I'm of the school that will say and believe that you can't have believing without the word for it. Language allows abstractions, there aren't many/any without it.
so the big symbol - linguistically - of ideas, abstractions - is the big, strong basic abstraction - the ZERO 0. But I just. I don't want to paint a picture of the 0. Not for this. I need to paint a picture of language. That's my problem.
But now, I guess I need to win on Jeopardy! I'll try that first.

Date: 2012-03-29 02:29 am (UTC)I would imagine the World as an inversion of the self. Like the world is both the stuff outside the person and the space on which self-hood is projected. So maybe a negative image of a person? I sort of imagine something like this blank space figure from Fantastic Four #600 that looks like its made out of the gutters:

I also really hope you end up on Jeopardy, because that is some television I would want to watch.

Date: 2012-03-30 11:20 am (UTC)The world. You say it all the time to mean why do you have to take a bus or go to the bank or pay rent or talk to people that you don't like - and you say it to mean the seasons or the ocean. It's just everything, but I want to narrow in on an aspect of everything.

Date: 2012-03-30 12:18 am (UTC)Sagan talks a big game about the cosmos but he's just always been selling the cosmic religious view of empiricism. "Look at how knowledgeable we are about things we have perceived. We have perceived and based on our perceptions know all of this blah blah." It's just bullshit man.
True fact- people always say science and reason - like the two are interchangeable - you know why? Because they got brought in by Sagan and his ilk, the mysteriarchs of the observable.
