Just Fuck. Fuck Everything.

The weather took a sudden turn and that murders my sinuses or brain or something - my thinkmeats are clawing at my skull, trying to bust out, I feel like the tiny chick inside my headbone is pecking its way out. Goddammed Egg-Tooth on the parasitic driver-bird. Serious facts: There is an amount of synaesthesia. There is an amount of feeling colors as flavors of pain, there is an amount of smelling temperatures. There is an amount of brutal nausea. Fuck.

This isn't a place for people, for people to live. This isn't a place fit for humans. Gales of november whatever... Whatever! This is the lake monster - the head-a-splode punishing it doles out a couple of times a year.

Yesterday through a series of searching texts and emails I got talked into running a game of Numenera, which I'll probably try to explain here as I get rolling. Weird to get set up to run something new (my players, they clamor for me, they love my Dungeon-styles) while I'm trying to wrap up other games, this is how it goes. Players - they run off their own scripts, hit their own high notes and call the climax and conclusion at their own speed - then - there you are, with a handful of untied ends and no satisfactory denouement - but players don't want that, they want the next series of adventures for their new series of characters.

I'm good, I'm good. I can do it. Numenera - it's all Vancian - A.D. 1,000,000,000 type post-post-post-apocalyptic. There have been at least 8 starfaring civilizations that have come and gone on the earth, and there is what is left- in the ruins of super-science a fantastic world of swords and sorcery emerges. That's fine. I run or have been running a more- Thundarr the barbarian style - post-near-future apocalyptic game. Where you could explore what amounts to the ruins of my apartment building - just full of still-functioning robot servants. Also there was an underworld that was just the remnant subway system but for giants.

I don't know - I'm pretty capable of running this mother, but new system, new things to learn, ideas to internalize.

Monsters to invent. Monsters. I need to invent a lot of those - I've been lax on monster-making.

So it's a T-rex, but it has a sweet beard and crown - this is currently the team-leader of my Pokemon team. Because it's a dinosaur with a sweet beard and crown.

This is not going to cut it for players however - players are weird creeps who like 'edge' and respect 'batman' and think 'dark' is cool but that things Grotesque and Alien are perverse, and frightening.

Ah players. I'll come up with monsters that will disorient and frighten them, all the way down into the bones.

Meanitme, I'm seeking out dying-earth type pictures to get a hang of the setting.

The ruins of the Alien/Robot war.

This part "There is an amount of feeling colors as flavors of pain, there is an amount of smelling temperatures. There is an amount of brutal nausea. Fuck." is beautiful

I promise that it wasn't beautiful.

I didn't like the article that he is critiquing for the same reasons he doesn't.

Also, I always liked the X-Men best, probably for the reasons portrayed here.

Also, the most popular character in comics isn't mentioned at all - what kind of power fantasy is Wolverine? He's a short, ugly canadian with vampire powers and amnesia who loves a girl who loves someone else.

Yes that was my feeling; mostly that the Salon article was dumb.
