Here's a day for misfit pieces already
You'll notice at first, your lack, absences and shortcomings
But not feel them a failure or panic at them.

You just don't have enough.
And these things happen.

When the lady in the stopped car on a sunny morning calls you over begging.
Spare change, money for gas, then.
Then you feel it but not before.

Sorry for unrelated question...

I was thinking of a co-op world building RPG. Players have "points" they can spend in order to "concretize"/incarnate ideas and thoughts into the world, a "material" of some sort, foamy, soupy, misty, whatever... The players can spend points to construct and imagine properties of this world, slowly they can level up and build larger and larger things (like, maybe, Katamari or something).

A whole ruleset about attributes to create, a sort of mix/match of these objects/attributes that you, as the player, can spend your magic power to create.

Picture something like 1000 Blank White Cards, but with more formalisms. Players can devise their own challenges for each other, and riff off one another.

Something like Legos of imagination. Constructing things and combatting each other...

Have you ever seen something like this? Since you don't like people in your world-building you might not like this idea, but... I thought it'd be interesting. Instead of a character as the character your world is the character, but the world is jointly constructed and there are clear rules to limit anybody having too much power right away, to influence your shit, as you make it up, but slowly the worlds converge and you can combat or explore or share world space...

I'm organizing a new game and I had a player who needed some information & I was finally able to articulate something I think about because a players needed background for his Fey-Bloodline sorcerer character:

You're not too skilful - pity the Sorcerer. Your training in the observance of nature has given you this background knowledge though (and I'm embroidering this because you're a sorcerer and a faerie) Long ago - there was nothing, this nothing was darkness and it was penetrated by light - when ideas first manifested physically they did so as stars. The stars tore the darkness apart and it vowed revenge - calling itself the King of Moths - it is a primordial contempt for Everything that seeks to destroy the universe by entropy. The King of Moths is both 'real' and a name for the abstract concept of Entropy. This is how all Things are - Every Form - you see, is the Evolved form of an abstract Concept. Some of these, like a forest - are the descendants of the first Abstractions-given-form - the Stars. The stars, you see, created worlds because their ideas were too good and demanded that they come into existence. Worlds are, or were, in the primordial time of the universe's origin - whole armies- arrays of soldiers massed in battle against nothing. The World is an Armada of forms and objects - all of them ideas given form. So a forest is not just a collection of trees, but it is an idea - about a specific forest in a specific place on a specific world - and this is a Soldier in the most ancient of conflicts.

This warrior aspect of these Spiritual Presences remains somewhat - it is particularly prevalent in the courts of the Faerie - who are the footsoldiers. If the Forest is a soldier, each tree is one of its bullets - and each tree is a Faerie. Now - since these Things are also Ideas given form - people who think about these things alter the forms of things. People knew that the forest was alive in a spiritual sense, and they evolved ideas about the spiritual aspect of the forest and that changed its manifestation. So too the Faeries. Where you are from in Rosecrown - the Faeries are concieved of as ancient Kings of an age that occurred only in dreams. Their battles and stories are never really thought of as more than stories - but stories are more real than what's real no? That's what the Rosecrown Sodalities beleived, still do. So these fable -creatures - they're everywhere - and every-Thing has a spiritual presence that can be called out, known and manipulated through belief. That's kind of how your magic works - Glammers. Say you're a Faerie king - you use trickery to spread a rumor that you're tall and handsome and beautiful, people believe that about you and then it is true. Fable and Myth are your allies, and you know that what people believe about you is essential to what you can actually do.

So I think that I've played with the ideas you're talking about here and there - realistically, in game- I don't really want to play with players who don't have this ambition in the first place. In D&D it's entirely possible for high-level characters to completely rewrite the script and make the world in their image- it's kind of the end-game goal of many players.

Some games, I know, operate in this way - where the reality is sort of shared and created by everyone. Here and there I have played with this -

Recently in the Game of the North - a fun little campaign I ran - the players were re-colonizing the abandoned Northern Continent - which I provided and created for adventures - while the southern continent was all player defined, they made all the decisions and set up their backstories and histories.

It just hit me that, I think this is sort of the concept of Changeling (funny since you mention fae), in a way. I mean that had more world pre-built (as do your ideas) than I imagine with this. But yeah, I suppose similar ideas makes sense...

You mentioning high level D&D makes me think of MUDs where high level players get privileges to "hack" the world around them.

At max level a wizard can cast a spell where he creates his own dimension. It rules.
