I can't even be sure if I did my taxes properly and I have to say I don't really concern myself about it too much. Time goes by and more and more I have the perception that there are gaping cracks in the structure of the social order and that these cracks separate islands of extreme brutish banality and preposterous absurdity. I think that I stopped believing in, or caring at all about the United States as a place during the second Bush administration. It's just not a serious place for serious people. It's a foolish place run by brutal-minded thugs for their own advantage.
I think I took the tea-partiers at their word. That they were the inheritors of the traditions of the founders. I found their arguments reasonable, probably accurate, that they really did represent the spirit of the founders. And that was a valid enough indictment of the founders that I just stopped having any respect for them. Same for my state - in which there was a scandal involving the pension fund being invested in beanie-babies by a crony of the governor. That happened and I still am grossed out.
The whole edifice just seems to be a celebration of corruption & shameful desires. I pay the taxes and participate inasmuch as I am compelled to by the justice system that is run by monsters for the benefit of monsters - that's how I feel, I can't be bothered to take it seriously, I just take it as a pointless series of pantomimes I have to perform in order to avoid being imprisoned or harmed.
Stupid the state, stupid society. I don't care for those things at all. Hobbes is rubbish.

Date: 2015-04-15 05:23 pm (UTC)I think you have just summed up how a lot of the UK thinks of our own political General Election (7th May 2015). We are having a lot of election flyers through the door, which are filed straight into the shredder.
